Fire Safety
SNGPL is committed for ensuring the safety of its employees and assets from fire-related emergencies. As part of this commitment, the company has continuously enhanced its fire detection and fighting capabilities. To achieve this, the following fire-fighting equipment has been installed at various SNGPL sites:
- Fire Extinguishers (Portable / Trolleys)
- Fire Hydrant Systems
- Fire Trucks
- Smoke Detection and Fire Alarm System
Fire Extinguisher are active fire protection devices used to extinguish or control small fires in emergency situations and at SNGPL sites, sufficient fire extinguishers (portable/trolleys) have been installed. However, it is important to note that fire extinguishers are not intended for use on an out-of-control fire, such as one that has reached the ceiling. To ensure that employees are well-equipped to handle such situations, regular firefighting training is provided locally at sites and at SNGPL's Training Institute (SNGTI) in Lahore.
The Fire hydrant system is another critical fire-fighting equipment that ensures an adequate, uninterrupted water supply, under sufficient pressure, at all strategic points of a building. This enables firefighters to extinguish fires immediately with minimum loss of time and maximum efficiency. The major components of the fire hydrant system include Fire Pump Station, Piping, Hydrant Connection, Fire Hoses/Cabinets/Nozzles, and Water Tank. Fire hydrant systems have been installed at various locations of SNGPL. To further enhance firefighting capabilities, fire hydrant systems with automatic pumping arrangements, as per NFPA code/IAP Rules, have been installed/commissioned at Regional & Transmission Offices Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Islamabad, Multan, and Compressor Stations AC-8 (Faisalabad), AC-6 (Multan), AC-4 (Uch Sharif), and AC-IX (Bhong). The installation of new fire hydrant systems and the up-gradation of various existing fire hydrant systems of SNGPL is also in progress to deal with fire-related emergencies more efficiently.
Fire Trucks are vehicles designed primarily for firefighting operations. The primary purposes of a fire truck include transporting firefighters to an incident scene, providing Water/Powder/CO2, and carrying other equipment, including ladders, fire suits, and first aid kits needed by firefighters. SNGPL has Fire Trucks stationed at Faisalabad, Multan, Wah and Lahore Transmission Terminals, Compressor stations located at remote sites (i.e. Uch Sharif, Bhong, Haranpur, and Gali Jagir), Kohat Transmission office, and Multan Terminal for dealing with fire emergencies.
The Smoke Detection and Fire Alarm System is a critical tool for the early detection of fire. If fire is detected at an initial stage, massive asset/human loss can be avoided.
SNGPL is installing the latest technology smoke systems at various locations and upgrading existing systems to ensure the safety of its employees and assets.
In conclusion, SNGPL is committed to ensuring the safety of its employees and assets from fire-related emergencies. By installing the latest fire-fighting equipment and providing regular training to its employees, SNGPL is well-equipped to handle fire emergencies effectively and efficiently.
Mock Drills (Firefighting, Evacuation and First Aid drills) are being conducted regularly at all SNGPL sites in order to prepare/ respond any real emergency and to ensure working condition of firefighting equipment and first aid kits.
